What is your opinion?

Hanifa Baba Sadiq — picture of her standing

I recently watched a video posted on Instagram by Jay Shetty, it says “We live in a perception of a perception of ourselves”, “If I think you think am stupid, then I feel stupid”. Did you get that? Well, I got the message because I have been in these shoes since the beginning of this training. I’m literally just struggling to wear my confidence back! But Guess what? even after being part of the winning team this week, my confidence didn’t just bounce back like that. I still had to relax and go through a mind cleansing process. All this while, I have allowed simple mistakes and comments from people cloud my own perception of myself, and this has affected the way I think and react to things generally. It has been a tough journey, struggling to believe in myself and regain my self-esteem. But again, it wasn’t about just winning, it was about debunking those “confidence — crushing” thoughts from my mind and disposing of statements and mistakes I have made in the past!

Well, now, I can say I am in the process, and in my lifetime, no matter what happens, I will never allow other people’s perception of me cloud my actions. I shall stick to my confidence in me and my abilities. I‘m learning to stand tall and stay strong no matter what, I’m ready to care less about “what they would say”. I’m not a shy girl who has a lot say but doesn’t know how to say it, I don’t have a low pitch tone, I’m not too emotional, I’m confident! This is me!…

That’s by the way, Let’s move to the sessions we had for the week. DigifyPro Trainer, Mrs. Dami Ade started on a good note with the topic; Social Media laws. We discussed different laws guiding access and the use of content online, from Privacy policies, Cookie laws to Intellectual property law. I learnt more about the do’s and don’ts of sourcing images online for Graphics and Social Media. She also reviewed best practices for creating Online and Social Media Marketing Strategies. This spiced up what I already learnt from other speakers and most of the key points she addressed were considered during our live brief for the week.

This same week, we had two guest speakers, Phoebe Okeyinka from Fuel communications and Brenda Nwagu from QVT Media. Mrs. Phoebe talked about Advertising and its opportunities on Monday. We went through a couple of advertisement campaigns done by some brands, highlighting key lessons from each of them. While Mrs. Brenda joined us on Tuesday with the topic — Media planning and buying in the digital age. She walked us through the evolution of media planning — how it was done in the early years of advertising, and how it is done now. She also explained some of the media planning operations/techniques carried out by QVT media.

Most successful digital campaigns are always centered on creativity and adequate targeting, which is why attending a session with Mr. Oluwatobi Oseni is a must for all aspiring digital marketers. It was an insightful session filled with “hacks and tricks of digital”. Our mouths were left agape when he shared some of the “behind-the-scene tricks” done for adverts. Not just that, he also shared some simple creativity tools like Boomerang, Quik, Creative studio. Applications like these will help to spice up those boring content I post on Social Media.

On Wednesday, Joshua Theophilus facilitated a practical session on How to create effective campaigns. Beyond the Ads manager option on Facebook dashboard, we were shown how to use options like Audience Insights and Creative hub to create a Facebook campaign.

To conclude lectures for the week, Victor Audu, the Head of Media at Youth Hub Africa had an engaging session with us on Advanced Photography and Editing with Adobe Lightroom. For the first time, I will say, I took great shots confidently with a Canon camera. In real sense, photography doesn’t interest me at all. I just believed it is for professionals only and I can never understand what goes down there. But now, although not to perfection, I can at least handle a digital camera to take good shots. Photography doesn’t just stop at taking shots, there is another phase, which is the editing. He demonstrated the use of Adobe Lightroom to edit photos. I personally tried my hands on it, and with his supervision, I successfully edited a photo and made it look better.

That was all for this week, we are gradually approaching the end of Digify Pro 8 Weeks Intensive Bootcamp. Stay tuned for more articles on my experience!
