A paradigm shift within two weeks…

Week 2: 26th — 30th August

After much anticipation from the previous week, we finally had the long-awaited session with the COO of Vyrus Digital, Mr. Deji Atunwa On Monday, 26th August 2019. It was an interesting session. He shared highlights of various content samples used in the Nigerian marketing Industry and tips for creating good content. This opened my eyes to better ways of creating content that is unique and engaging. Earlier that day, Mrs. Dami Ade had already introduced us to content marketing; video marketing and User-generated content. Although it was a really long session but we had fun while learning as she shared practical examples to aid our understanding and we also had group activity sessions at intervals.

To be honest, this week was really fast and I think it is because we received our live brief for the week from Mr. Deji Atunwa on Monday and we had only Tuesday and Wednesday to work on it. We had to juggle research for the assignment and lectures at the same time.

On Tuesday, Mrs. Florence Olumodimu gave us a lecture on the Digital marketing landscape in Nigeria. She shared different statistical reports on the behaviour of internet users in Nigeria and how this can be used to influence marketing decisions. This came in very handy for the live brief we were working on.

The next day, Mr. Joshua Theophilus covered Facebook Marketing. It was quite interactive, we discussed strategies brands employ to market their products or services on Facebook. It includes customization of a brand’s page, setting goals, writing compelling captions, engagement, measurement, and optimization for better results.

Thursday, the D-day for the presentation finally set in. The ambiance on that day was very different from that of the first week. We had two guests from O3 Capital limited in Lagos, Mr. Deji Atunwa himself and Mrs. Florence Olumodimu, the program manager. They all joined us via Zoom, listened to our presentation and made necessary comments and corrections. Unfortunately, just like last week, my group came last. We had a serious issue with uploading the right pitch deck for the presentation. This made our slides appear incomplete and it seemed as if we hadn’t completed our work. There was a huge outburst of emotion especially from me as I cried my eyes out that day. We had put in more effort this time but our presentation was a mess again!

George Omaroro, CEO at the Rage group, Abuja.

Finally, we concluded the week with a visit to Rage group, a full-service integrated marketing communications agency located at Utako, Abuja. The Chairman, George was very receptive with a great sense of humor, he took us around all the different units of the agency. He narrated the history of the Rage group and emphasized the importance of storytelling in the marketing industry. He also gave us a task and promised to reward the winner with a whole sum of 100, 000 Naira. I’m seriously awaiting the outcome of this task as I have started calculating what I will do with that amount of money If I ever get to win it.

This week was very tasking, but Friday was my best day and it transformed the whole week’s experience!
